about

There is no obsolescence more acutely felt by me, than the obsolescence of the landline telephone. Once considered a revolution in telecommunication but when you think about it, very short-lived. A while ago the landline was replaced by a digital factotum - a device much less endearing than old faithful. Modern tech has its pros but the E-waste produced by the proliferation of hand-held technology is beyond upsetting. Let alone the lost joy of hearing the phone ring in the hallway, lounge room or kitchen, talking to our friends tethered to a wall, making prank calls on a Friday night sleepover. This is why I wrote this synth-pop-lament to my old landline.

lyrics

land line land line i miss you

land line land line talking to you

hanging up and dialling all your special codes
i memorised

land line land line i push your buttons
scandalise lies lifes truths and gossip
breaking news and bombshells
stifling our laughter and our tears

i said too much

waited for your dial

i talked too long
was forced to hang up
land line
land line

land line land line my head is restless

ending forests the autumn leaves surround me
your my life line

iʼm dying to talk to you

hello how are you
have i caught you at a good time
this reception is amazing

what say that again

i canʼt hear you
we must have a bad connection

land line land line can you hear me calling
talk to old my mate

catch up on the stories

wish all the family
 my best regards

send my love

i said too much

waited for your dial

i talked too long
was forced to hang up
land line
land line

land line land line

my heads whirling

no one seems to care that iʼm hurting

hello how are you
have i caught you at a good time
this reception is amazing

what say that again

i canʼt hear you
we must have a bad connection

send my love

what say that again
send my love
