about

It was 2015 and the time of council kerb-side collection/hard rubbish in my Melbourne suburb of Brunswick. Useless and useful shit in equal measure piled everywhere: K-Mart, Ikea and $2 Shop garbage equivalencies of manna from heaven. In amongst the crap were more rarified artefacts like English China tea sets complete with hallmarks, crystal wine glasses, books, pillows and soft toys. I called those 'soft rubbish'. Then I imagined people were rubbish too. Myself specifically. I bleakly fantasised that I was a piece of trash in the gutter, waiting for the truck to come, to load me in and end it all. We must take action to counteract the damage our voracious human consumption for 'stuff' causes to the earth. Any action; small or large, hard or soft is a worthwhile action.

lyrics

sitting in the gutter
so many motley pieces of trash
sitting in the gutter
so many motley pieces of trash

little dolly
all broken to bits

cos tomorrow they're gonna come and put you in the truck
and that means that i've had enough
and that means i won't see you again
and that means i can start again

lustreless faded stars have fallen
washed up crinkled dried up
dead beat bastard dead beat bastard junk
oh well
cheap they say is cheap my friend warranties voided
oh well

little dolly
all broken to bits

cos tomorrow they're gonna come and put you in the truck
and that means that i've had enough
and that means i won't see you again
and that means i can start again
